Steel rebar also rises out of the trenches at key points to form strengthened columns that are tied to the foundations. Probably someone who knows more about building concrete block houses could describe this better. But at least you have a nice picture to help imagine what I'm talking about!
You can see that they are now bringing block on to the site to start building the walls out of the trenches...
The smallish looking block of earth at the bottom of the picture is the downstairs toilet, which is underneath the stairs. Looks tiny! It is small and we are hoping that once the walls go up the actual size will be just comfortable enough.
